Researchers at Cambridge University found that homemade masks are surprisingly effective at reducing the transmission of viruses. When they tested Bacteriophage MS2 particles (at 0.02 microns, they're five times smaller than COVID-19) they found that surgical masks were 89% effective. Linen is 62% effective at stopping transmission, and easier to breathe through as well.
This mask is made of a double layer of oatmeal linen and secured using elastics around the ears. It has white topstitching on one side and black on the other so that the inside and outside of the mask can be told apart at a glance. If you would prefer ribbon ties instead of elastic, just leave a note at checkout. These masks are machine washable and will shrink slightly if washed and dried; for slightly larger faces you may prefer to hand wash to avoid this slight shrinkage.
